GREENSBORO, N.C. – After winning the women’s title and finishing second in the men’s field at the recent Southeastern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, the Florida track teams compete in the 2009 NCAA East Regional meet Friday and Saturday at North Carolina A&T’s Irwin Belk Track.

Coach Mike Holloway’s men enter the regional ranked No. 1 in the nation according to the latest poll from the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. The women are ranked No. 16 in the latest poll.

Florida won nine events at the SEC meet held at Percy Beard Track/James G. Pressly Stadium: men’s decathlon, women’s steeplechase, women’s long jump, women’s triple jump, women’s javelin, women’s shot put, the men’s 4x100-meter relay, the men’s 200 meters and the men’s 400 meters.

Junior Calvin Sprinter captured the 2009 men’s Commissioner’s Trophy after totaling 22 points with his victory in the 400, his runner-up finish in the 200 and his legs on the 4x100 relay (first) and 4x400 relay (third) teams.

Since the NCAA went to its regional format for the outdoor season, Florida has been flourished at the East Regional. Both teams captured regional titles in 2003 and 2004. The men have never been below second since, while the women have finished third the last two seasons.

The schedule of events with Florida participants follows:
