ShareGators edge Eagles 2-1 in eight innings
Michelle Moultrie received a standing ovation from the crowd of 492 in Pressley Stadium after the senior’s sacrifice bunt in the eighth inning led to Florida’s 2-1 victory against Eastern Michigan on Thursday night.
“Michelle’s one of the best bunters in the country,” said Florida coach Tim Walton. “She popped it up just a little bit, but the way her style is, she softens it up in the zone. She gets it right in the middle part of the field, so that was key.”
With runners at first and second, Moultrie’s bunt moved them into scoring position for Brittany Schutte, who drove in the winning run on a spinning grounder to first off the end of her bat. Eastern Michigan had just brought in left-handed pitcher Lauren Wells for a favorable matchup against the left-handed swinging Schutte.
