Florida women blank Alabama, move to 4-0 in SEC

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – No. 5 Florida earned its seventh consecutive women’s tennis victory with its 4-0 decision against Alabama Sunday afternoon at the University of Alabama Tennis Stadium.

“We were really playing a high level of tennis today,” Florida head coach Roland Thornqvist said. “I liked that we kept our focus after winning a tough doubles point. We continue to improve on different areas of our game and keep getting stronger.”

Florida captured the doubles point at the top two positions before senior Anastasia Revzina gave the Gators their first singles victory of the afternoon, as she defeated Paulina Bigos, 6-1, 6-0, and won her 90th career singles match.

Freshmen Allie Will and Lauren Embree then earned victories at the No. 2 and No. 1 spots, respectively, to close out the team win. Will posted a 6-0, 6-1 decision over Courtney McLane, while Embree downed No. 78 Alexa Guarachi, 6-2, 6-2.

The Gators won the first set against the Crimson Tide on the other three singles matches and held leads in all second sets when play was halted.

Florida returns to the court on Friday, March 26, when the Gators travel to Starkville to play Mississippi State.
