Florida’s Kitty Cullen (Rockville, Md.) has been named the American Lacrosse Conference’s Offensive Player of the Week for games played from March 21-27. This is Cullen’s second ALC Weekly honor of her career and Florida’s fourth ALC Weekly honor of the season. This is the first time in program history that the Gators have had an ALC Weekly honor for three straight weeks.

Cullen had stellar games against Fairfield and Ohio State. Against the Stags, she had a team-high four goals on six shots (.667), including going 3-for-3 on free position shots.

Against the Buckeyes, Cullen had her second six-goal performance of the season (vs. Denver, Feb. 20) and third of her career (vs. Johns Hopkins, May 6, 2010), tying the program record she holds with Ashley Bruns (Ellicott City, Md.). The sophomore scored five of her goals in the first half and had a hat trick just 14 minutes into the contest.

With her sixth goal of the game against Ohio State, Cullen set a new program record for goals in a single season with 49. Bruns scored 48 as a freshman a year ago. The sophomore midfielder leads the nation in goals scored overall and goals per game, while coming in fifth in points overall.

The American Lacrosse Conference has recognized two other student-athletes for their play last week as three different institutions earned honors. Vanderbilt’s Alyssa Dunlap picked up Rookie of the Week honors, the first time a Commodore has been recognized by the conference this season. Brooke Lipinski from Johns Hopkins was named Defensive Player of the Week, the first Blue Jay to be so named in 2011.

The No. 6 Gators take on the No. 16 Penn State Nittany Lions in State College, Pa. on Saturday, April 2nd. Opening draw is set for 12:00 p.m. The Nittany Lions are 6-4 on the season thus far, entering the IWLCA poll after definitive wins over No. 12 Vanderbilt, 11-8, and No. 16 William & Mary, 17-8.
