Choi leads Florida men’s golf after Round Two of Hootie @ Bulls Bay
Sophomore Phillip Choi (Orlando, Fla.) shot a 71 for round two at the Hootie @ Bulls Bay Intercollegiate on Monday to lead the Florida Men’s Golf team to a ninth place finish after round two.
“Today was a really tough day to play golf,” said head coach Buddy Alexander. “It was windy and rainy and we had a couple of rain delays, but I saw some encouraging things today, despite our score.”
Choi began the day in a tie for 19th and steadily moved in to a tie for 10th after making four birdies and three bogeys. He has now shot his last five rounds at or under par, going back to three rounds at the Schenkel Invitational.
Junior Michael Furci (Sayville, N.Y.) made four birdies and three bogeys to shoot a career-best one-under par for the day.
“We had a couple of guys play really well today, which is really encouraging,” said Alexander. “It was nice to see Michael have a solid round.”
Sophomores Tyler McCumber (Ponte Vedra, Fla.) and Tommy Mou (Bradenton, Fla.) both shot a 76 and senior Bank Vongvanij (Bradenton, Fla.) a 77 to close out the second round.
“I’m pretty sure we will bounce back as a team,” said Alexander. “It is important that we close out well tomorrow so we can come back and get ready for the (Southeastern) Conference Tournament.”
The Gators will play the third and final round on Tuesday.
