Brittany Harrell records third-best heptathlon score in UF History

AUSTIN, Texas — Freshman Florida multi-event athlete Brittany Harrell (McComb, Miss.) turned in the third-best heptathlon score in UF school history (5,141) to place eighth overall at the 84th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays contested at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas.

Harrell’s total of 5,141 points was the third-best in school history and the best heptathlon score at UF since 1990. Only Heidi Mann (5,784 points in 1987) and Dorchelle Webster (5,388 points in 1990) have recorded better point totals in the women’s heptathlon in program history.

West Virginia’s Chelsea Carrier won the Texas Relays heptathlon competition with a score of 5,927, while Kansas State’s Ryann Krais (5,848) and Texas A&M’s Daphne Fitzpatrick (5,638) were second and third, respectively.

Harrell opened the day with an 11th-place finish in the women’s long jump with a leap of 5.44m/17-10.25 (+1.5) before recording a sixth-place showing in the women’s javelin with a throw of 36.75m/120-7. That javelin mark was just outside Florida’s all-time top-10 in the event. She finished the day with a personal-best run of 2:26.24 in the women’s 800m.

The Florida track and field team returns to action on Saturday, April 16, when it plays host to the Tom Jones Memorial Classic at James G. Pressly Stadium at Percy Beard Track beginning at 12 p.m.
