Blue, glittery eye shadow wasn’t the only thing left sparkling on gymnasts’ faces at the close of Friday’s meet.
Tears streamed down the Gators’ flushed cheeks after they topped Utah in a 197.9, 196.475 victory, which registered the second-highest total in the country. The meet marked the last regular competition before the Southeastern Conference Championships on March 24 and the last home meet ever for UF’s four seniors.
Nicole Ellis, Amy Ferguson, Elizabeth Mahlich and student coach Kailey Tissue all treaded onto the stage of the O’Connell Center for the last time. Ellis, Ferguson and Mahlich all contributed solid performances to a final team total that notched as the fourth-highest total in school history.
