Beisel named SEC Female Swimmer of the Week

 |  November 8, 2011  |  0 Comments

Sophomore Elizabeth Beisel was named the SEC Female Swimmer of the Week, announced Tuesday by the Southeastern Conference. It marks the second consecutive week that a Florida swimmer has claimed the honor, as Teresa Crippen donned the honor last week, and the fourth time this season that Florida has taken home a weekly league accolade. The announcement marks the fifth time in Beisel's young collegiate career that she has been named the SEC Female Swimmer of the Week.

The nod comes after the All-American won a meet-high three victories in a double-dual against top-tier programs No. 13 Stanford and No. 16 Michigan. She was one of just two swimmers to post individual victories in both the long course meter and short course yard pool, when she claimed the 400-meter IM, 400-meter free and 200-yard backstroke events.

The Florida sophomore breezed past the pool of competitors over the weekend finishing the 400-meter IM in 4:43.01, more than seven seconds before the second-place finisher, and the 400-meter free in 4:14.7 - four seconds ahead of the next swimmer to touch the wall. She claimed the 200 back in 1:56.18 to secure her third and final individual victory on the weekend.

Beisel leads the nation and conference in both the 200 back and 400 IM, with NCAA “B” cut times of 1:54.44 and 4:07.92, respectively.

The Florida swimming and diving team will have the week off, after a strenuous week of competition. The Gators will return to the pool next Friday, Nov. 18 to take place in the Georgia Tech Invitational. The meet will feature Clemson, Emory, Florida Atlantic, Florida Gulf Coast, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Miami and Virginia Tech over a span of three days.
