Recapping the Florida Gators softball team’s 4-0 week

GatorCountry.com brings you this week’s Florida Gators softball review as the Gators finished another perfect 4-0 week.. In this recap we will break down the past week’s games, plus name a player of the week from the past week.

The Gators started the week off by defeating UCF at home and then finished the week by sweeping Ole Miss. The Gators allowed just one run in four games this week.

Florida is now 44-3 on the year and will not play a midweek game before heading to Tennessee this weekend.

Offensive leaders

Junior Kayli Kvistad was in a little bit of a slump but last week she broke out of that by driving in eight runs. Kvistad had seven hits and two walks which gave her the single season record for a walks by a Gator.

Sophomore Aleshia Ocasio has been known for her work in the circle but this year she’s been getting a lot of chances at the plate. Last week she drove in three runs and also had four hits.

 

 

Pitching

Tim Walton and Florida Gators softball pitching coach Jennifer Rocha threw only three of the Gators four pitchers this past week. Walton with his normal duo of Kelly Barnhill and Delanie Gourley this weekend but Ocasio also saw time in relief.

Sophomore Kelly Barnhill pitched 12 innings last week and struck out 25 batters in those two games. Barnhill continued to basically unhittable as she only allowed four hits and didn’t give up a run. Barnhill lowered her nation’s best ERA to 0.17.

Senior Delanie Gourley rebounded from last weekend’s loss by throwing seven shutout innings to get a win. Gourley had 11 strikeouts while only giving up two hits.

 

Player of the week

Junior Kayli Kvistad was the bat that the Gators really needed to get going again and she delivered with her eight RBI’s last week. Kvistad is one of the most dangerous hitters in the country and she showed why last week.

This week’s schedule

Florida doesn’t play a mid-week game this week but has to travel this weekend for a tough road SEC series.

  • Friday at Tennessee at 6:00 P.M.
  • Saturday at. Tennessee at 2:00 P.M.
  • Sunday at Tennessee at 1:00 P.M.
