As the old saying goes, “a win is a win.”
It doesn’t matter that the Lady Bulldog Invitational was cut short to 18 holes due to a layer of frost settling in on the University of Georgia Golf Course.
It also doesn’t matter that individual tournaments don’t count towards season totals.
Florida senior Mia Piccio’s two-stroke victory over the weekend is yet another successful outing for a member of the Gators’ women’s golf team.
The Philippines-native was unfazed by the chilly weather in Athens, Ga., shooting a season-best 69, including a field-best 33 on the front nine. Piccio’s victory marks the sixth Gators medalist winner for the women’s team this season.
Florida featured two more team members in the field on Saturday, including junior Elcin Ulu, who tied for fifth place in the event with a score of 75, and sophomore Anna Young, who shot an 81 to finish tied for 23rd place.
With the individual tournaments now out of the way, the Gators will now focus on team events for the remainder of the season, starting with one of the year’s biggest tournaments in the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge in Palos Verdes, Calif.
The 54-hole tournament is scheduled to begin on February 11th, and runs through the February 13th.
