GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Senior Nora Barry scored her 100th-career goal during No. 4 Florida’s (2-1) 21-0 shutout victory over Michigan (0-1) Saturday afternoon at Donald R. Dizney Stadium. The midfielder became just the fifth Gator to reach the historic mark when she scored the game’s fourth goal off an assist from sophomore Sammi Burgess. Florida’s offensive onslaught started quickly, as redshirt junior Nicole Graziano netted the game’s first goal just 22 seconds into play. The Gators’ fast and furious attack continued as UF scored four times within the first three minutes of play, the fourth goal being Barry’s 100th. The Gators entered halftime with a 16-0 lead after replacing many of their starters after the first 15 minutes of play. UF dominated in all aspects of the game, outshooting Michigan, 32-11, and forced 11 turnovers on the defensive side of the ball. In all, 12 Gators scored goals, led by Barry, Burgess and freshman Bella O’Connor, who scored three goals each. Junior goalkeeper Mary-Sean Wilcox moved to 2-1 in goal this season, making four saves and freshman Olivia Cole entered after halftime and made four saves, as well, to preserve the second-ever shutout in program history. I was really, really impressed with our freshmen. They came out and they played really hard. I thought Allie Pavinelli, Shayna Pirreca and Bella O’Connor did a good job. Those are three names who are going to be the future of Florida lacrosse.” On Shannon Gilroy’s six draw controls: “I thought Shannon Gilroy did a great job off of the draw. She controlled, I think, the first nine or so. So obliviously if we have the ball they can’t score and we have every opportunity to score so I thought she did a great job.” On shutting out Michigan: “No it isn’t often you get a shout out and you just give credit to your goalies. I though they came up with some huge saves, especially Olivia [Cole] in the second half. [She] had some point-blank eight-meter shots that she just came up big with, and she’s clutch in those kind of situations and again, she’s only a freshman, so the future is looking good.” Up Next Florida hosts San Diego State (0-0) on Friday (Feb. 20) at 6:30 p.m. at Donald R.
