Florida Gators: Hunter named SEC Gymnast of the Week

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Turning in last weekend's top all-around total in the nation in the meeting between the defending co-NCAA champions gives Florida's Kytra Hunter<http://www.gatorzone.com/guides/gymnastics/pages/season_info/player_bios/hunter_kytra.php> the Southeastern Conference Gymnast of the Week honor, the league office announced Tuesday.

This is Hunter's third SEC Gymnast of the Week honor of 2015 and the eighth of her career.


Five different Gators have been honored by the league this season. Bridget Sloan<http://www.gatorzone.com/gymnastics/bios.php?year=2015&player_id=42> was Week I SEC Specialist of the Week after she opened the 2015 season with a 10.0 vault mark at Ball State. Alex McMurtry<http://www.gatorzone.com/guides/gymnastics/pages/season_info/player_bios/mcmurtry_alex.php> was Week II SEC Specialist of the Week after she also posted a 10.0 vault mark and the Week VII SEC Freshman of the Week. Hunter claimed the Week IV, Week VI and Week IX Gymnast of the Week and Kennedy Baker<http://www.gatorzone.com/guides/gymnastics/pages/season_info/player_bios/baker_kennedy.php> claimed the Week II, IV and VI SEC Freshman of the Week honors. Ericha Fassbender<http://www.gatorzone.com/guides/gymnastics/pages/season_info/player_bios/fassbender_erica.php> was Week V SEC Freshman of the Week.

Kytra Hunter

Hunter Performance at Oklahoma:
Hunter equaled her season-high all-around of 39.75 in Friday's dual meet at No. 1 Oklahoma. That all-around total equals the highest posted in the nation last weekend and is the nation's second-highest of the 2015. It is also the season's top road all-around total in the nation.

It is the 19th all-around win and the 75th event win for Hunter. Those totals place her fourth on both Gator career lists.

Hunter turned in marks of 9.9 or better in every event at OU. She raised her collegiate balance beam best to 9.975 to take second. She also shared second on vault (9.95) and earned 9.925 on floor and a 9.90 on bars.

Next up for the Gators:
The home finale for the Gators is this Friday, March 13 when Texas Woman's University makes its first visit to Gainesville. Meet time is set for 6:45 p.m. in the Stephen C. O'Connell Center<http://www.oconnellcenter.ufl.edu/eventprofile.asp?eventid=2501>.

It is Florida's Senior Night.
