WR Chris Thompson commits to Florida

According to sources, the Florida football team picked up its 21st verbal commitment in Gainesville (Fla.) High receiver Chris Thompson, who just received a scholarship offer on Monday.

Thompson becomes the fifth prospect to verbally commit to Florida in as many days.

After impressing the coaches at Will Muschamp’s Florida Gators Football Camp in June, Thompson again impressed during Friday Night Lights at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium on Friday.

The 6-foot, 170-pound Thompson was asked to report to Will Muschamp’s office on Monday and that is when he learned the good news that he had picked up an offer from Florida. Florida first-year offensive coordinator Brent Pease also played a major role in landing Thompson’s pledge, according to sources close to the situation.

Thompson has always known that he wanted to be a Gator from the time he was a little kid.

“I have been a Florida fan since the time I was a little boy,” Thompson said. “They are my hometown school and the stadium is in my back yard. So it has been a dream to play for the Gators.”

Picking Florida was also big for Thompson’s family as his mother told Gator Country.com at Friday Night Lights.

“We are from here so Chris playing here would be great,” Mrs. Thompson said. “Now we will be able to watch Chris play all of his home games without having to leave home.”

Thompson’s pledge caps an impressive five day run for the Gators as Vernon Hargreaves III picked Florida on Thursday, Antonio Riles picked Florida on Friday, Jordan Sherit picked the Gators on Saturday and yesterday Travonte Valentine committed to Florida.

Thompson also gives Florida its fourth receiver in the Class of 2013, which is positive news for the Gators coaching staff because it’s clearly a position of need.
