RECRUITING: Van Dyke visiting Gators in Nov.

 |  October 17, 2006

The Florida Gators are in real need at the cornerback position. Graduating three off of the top of their depth chart at the end of the 2006 season means they will need quality and quantity in the recruiting class. DeMarcus Van Dyke of Miami Monsignor Pace is currently committed to Miami. The Gators continue to recruit him hard and he plans on visiting Florida and Ohio State in November.

Rated four-stars by Scout.com, Van Dyke ran the fastest regional time in the forty in the Scout.com combines held this spring. His athletic excellence has helped lead his team to a strong start at 6-1 and 1-0 in the district. Through the first six games he had six catches for 208 yards and two touchdowns as a wide receiver and 34 tackles and five interceptions as a cornerback.

With his skills and on a 6-1 and 170 pound frame, there is no wonder why big programs are still pursuing the committed cornerback. Van Dyke remains committed to Miami but will visit the Florida Gators and Ohio State Buckeyes.

“I am going to Florida for the South Carolina game and Ohio State for the Michigan game,” Van Dyke said Thursday night. “I will make my visit to Miami at the end of the season.”

Van Dyke said a few things about what he likes about each program.

Florida: “They are on a roll. They need cornerbacks. They are a great team and with great coaching. Coach Holliday has been relentless in recruiting me.”

Ohio State: “I like that they are number one in the nation and have a great offense and defense.”

Miami: “It’s a great school. They have great academics and great coaches.”

According to Van Dyke, a good visit could go a long way in opening his eyes to another program.

“I could change my mind if I really like it when I go on my visit,” he said.

DeMarcus Van Dyke opened a lot of eyes this spring with his combine numbers. Since that point in time he has really turned heads on the football field as well. As he matures as a football player, college programs started to notice and now Miami has their work cut out for them to keep this big time commitment
