The Florida Gators may not be the top choice for Citra (Fla.) North Marion’s Albert Gary, but the school that he grew up right down the street from is on the short list of the 5-10, 176-pound running back.

Gary said he typically roots for Florida State, but if he received an offer from the Gators, he would consider them along with Auburn, South Carolina, West Virginia and the Seminoles who round out his top-five.

“They all have great tradition, good coaching and good academics,” Gary said.

As a junior at North Marion, Gary averaged nearly seven yards a carry, rushing for more than 1,100 yards. He also lined up in the slot where he caught 21 passes for two touchdowns. He runs a 4.5 40-yard dash and also returned kicks for the Colts during his junior season. On the defensive side of the ball, he starts at safety, but sees himself lining up in the backfield at the next level.

“I don’t really consider myself to be a power back, but I can be,” he said.

Gary participated in the recent Scout.com combine in Jacksonville where he posted solid numbers in the shuttle (4.54), vertical (33) and broad jump (8-11).

After canceling a trip to Auburn last weekend to prepare for the ACT, Gary is planning a trip to Florida State this weekend along with a trip to the Gators’ Orange and Blue Game next month.

“I want to go somewhere where there will be good tutoring and a good program,” Gary said. “I don’t just want to go anywhere.”

Gary didn’t attend any camps last summer, but has plans to camp this summer although nothing is planned. He has one offer from Tennessee already.
