RECRUITING: Top Florida Safety has eye on UF

 |  February 15, 2007

One of the top safeties in south Florida is Hillsborough High school product Chuck Grace. After a solid season that put him on the map in the state of Florida, he now looks forward to the recruiting process.

As a safety for the Hillsborough football team, Chuck Grace was one of the more imposing defenders in south Florida.

The 5’10”, 173 pound defensive back already has four instate schools he has been receiving letters from, and they currently make up his top schools.

“I’m currently getting letters from Florida, Florida State, USF, and Miami,” Grace said. “I’m interested in those schools right now.”

“I haven’t really talked to any of the coaches just yet,” Grace said. “I get mostly letters from them. I definitely plan on seeing all those campuses in the upcoming year.”

One of the strongest facets of Grace’s game includes his speed in the defensive backfield.

“I went to the Rutgers camp last year. I got to meet a lot of great players in the area and see how the camp atmosphere is. I ran a 4.52 for my 40.”

In his junior year, Grace also claims to have learned about the player he hopes to continue becoming, as well as learning more about the game itself.

“The biggest thing I learned last year is how I have to continue working hard,” Grace said. “Even though I want to play in college, that is only where it begins and I’ve got to keep working. I hope next year that I can keep getting better and have a better season.”

Even with a successful junior year behind him, Grace is obviously still driven as a player, and has pinpointed the areas from which he needs to improve.

“The area I think I need to improve on the most would be my speed getting to the football, and then on my strength once I get there,” Grace said.

Thought the Tampa product seems to be a long way from making his final decision, he has decided what characteristics he would like his final choice to maintain.

“The school that I choose to go to has to look out for me,” Grace said. “I obviously want a great football team, but I also want to go to a place with good academics. I want to get a good education. I also want to play for a coach that cares about me.”
