RECRUITING: Toliver - a play maker for UF?
While the Gator offense is still a work in progress, one thing is for sure... Urban Meyer has shown that when he gets play makers in the game that can make plays, the offense can really move and score. Texas wide receiver Terrance Toliver is a big time play maker the Gators are hoping will add to their arsenal in the class of 2007. Tolliver will visit Florida for the South Carolina game.
At nearly 6-5 and 190 pounds, Toliver is Scout.com’s number three rated receiver in the nation. At Florida’s Friday night Lights camp in July the Hampstead (TX) receiver was the best of a star studded list of receivers in attendance. He is smooth and fast and really attacks the ball when in the air.
Right now Toliver is nursing an injury that he hopes will be healed enough to play this weekend. In the meantime his academic status seems to be improving.
“I have missed two games but I am hoping to get back this week,” Toliver said. “I took a helmet to the knee, but I will be fine. School is going really well.”
Two of Toliver’s favorites squared off this past weekend in the Swamp in Gainesville. Toliver saw some of the game and remembers one play in particular.
“I saw some of the LSU-Florida game,” he said. “I saw that Tim Tebow did well. I saw his double pump pass into the end zone. I was surprised, because I thought it was going to be a pretty close game.”
The Tigers and Gators join one other team on the top of his list of suitors right now. Toliver lists six schools:
“My list is still the same, Florida, LSU, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Miami, and Clemson,” he said. “Three teams standout right now, Florida, LSU, and Oklahoma.”
Oklahoma: “I just like their environment. I went to the game against Washington for an official visit. They need some receivers too and a quarterback.”
LSU: “I still feel the same about them, win or lose. They are losing two or three receivers and they are starting to pass the ball.”
Florida: “I really like the spread offense. They are ranked number two in the country. I really like Coach Meyer and they had the number one recruiting class last year. Coach Meyer is not afraid to give the true freshman a chance to showcase what they can do on the field.”
“I like that they pass the ball and go to their play makers. You already know they are telling me I would replace Dallas Baker if I went there. I remember watching him on film over the summer. I know he has almost scored a touchdown in every game. “They really get that position involved. I plan on coming down there for the South Carolina game.”
“I also talk to Cameron Newton. He was going to come for the LSU game, but I told him I was going to come for the South Carolina game. I think we will both be there.”
As he starts to take more of his visits, Toliver is just looking for an environment that he likes and can feel comfortable in.
“I just want them to show me around and see the academics,” he said. “I just want to have fun and enjoy myself.”
Terrance Toliver certainly knows a lot about Florida football. The Texas speed demon is a natural fit for an offense that is on the verge of really exploding. The Gators have been very successful pulling players from Texas and have six Texans currently on the roster. Three have started (Jarvis Moss, Kestahn Moore, and Tate Casey) and the other three have seen some back up time (David Nelson, Brandon Antwine, and Mon Williams). The Gators would certainly like to add one more Texan to that list.
