RECRUITING: Still Same Eight For Davis

- Senior Columnist  |  September 19, 2006

Lynn Haven Mosley running back Enrique Davis has struggled a bit this season with dehydration but Friday night he was back at full speed as the Dolphins defeated Tallahassee Chiles, 47-27. One day after he was part of an offensive explosion, Davis took in a classic Southeastern Conference defensive war as the guest of Auburn University.

“I went to the Auburn-LSU game yesterday,” Davis said Sunday evening. “It was a real good game. Neither one of those teams gave up. It was fun. I liked it a lot. Coach (Tommy) Tuberville and Coach (Eddie) Gran were great. They took the time out to talk to me. My parents went up there with me and they really enjoyed it too. I had been up there for a camp and really enjoyed visiting with Kenny Irons.”

Davis (6-1, 215) is a top big back with lots of speed and his services are being courted by teams throughout the south which is where he plans to play his college football. He said that he is not close to trimming down his list of eight schools. His primary focus is squarely on high school football and his studies.

He had health problems due to dehydration but he’s in good shape now.

“I got dehydrated really bad and had to sit out a game,” he explained. “The team played four games, but I’ve only played three. I had 130 yards on nine carries and a couple of touchdowns the other night against Chiles. We’re 2-2, but we are undefeated in the district. I want to help our team win a state championship. We have a big district game against Leon next week. I guess so far I have 500-and something yards. I only had six carries against Godby, though. I finished with 106 yards rushing. I ran for over 200 yards against Bay High. I scored three times against them, too. I know that I have seven touchdowns this season.”

When it comes to recruiting, it’s still the same familiar faces in the mix for Davis.

“LSU, Auburn, Alabama, FSU, Georgia, NC State, Florida, and South Carolina are probably my favorite eight,” Davis stated. “I don’t have a visit list set. I don’t even have anything like that ready at all. A lot of schools are recruiting me hard. The other game that I can’t wait to see is Florida and FSU. FSU is recruiting me really hard. I talk to Coach Mickey (Andrews) just about every week. They tell me that they really want me to go up there. They’re after me and Noel Devine. I want to see LSU play too.”

The Gators are one other school that has been on Davis’ radar for quite some time although I certainly didn’t get the impression that he is very high on them. He simply didn’t offer much to say as regards to Florida as he had last spring.

“I talk to Coach (Chuck) Heater and Urban Meyer calls every once in awhile,” he said. “I’ve missed some of their calls and some other schools’ calls because I’m pretty busy. I get the messages and keep up with who is calling. But, I have to keep my class work up. That’s something I’ve been working on really hard during the week. If I want to get into a good college, I have to have that work completed.”

The only other school that Davis mentioned without adding them to his top eight was the Beast of the Big East.

“West Virginia is after me hard,” he said. “They keep telling me that their running back is the top running back in the NCAA as far as statistics go.”
