RECRUITING: Nwankwo very impressed with UF

 |  October 9, 2006

Emeka Nwankwo has been pursued as one of the top offensive linemen in south Florida. As the recruiting season continues, Emeka has now narrowed his choices down to two schools.

Emeka Nwankwo is currently focused on playing his best to improve the Hollywood Chaminade Madonna football team and lead them as far into the state playoffs as possible. “We’re now 5-1. We just beat North Miami Beach 24-14. We’re playing good football right now.”

When it comes to recruiting, the final destination seems clearer. “I’m really just looking at Florida and Notre Dame. It’s just down to those two.”

Notre Dame: “I like their coaches a lot. Their players that I’ve met are really cool. They have good fans too.”

Florida: “I’ve seen this year how they play most of their freshman early. All their coaches are really cool too. They environment at the Swamp is incredible. They’ve got some really good fans too.”

“Coach Doc Holliday is recruiting me for Florida. I talk to him once a week about how everything’s going. He’s real cool.”

The 6’5”, 270 pound lineman has seen both of the schools he is considering, with only one of those times being on an official visit. “I went and visited Notre Dame for their game against Penn State. I liked it a lot. It was a good experience for me.”

“I haven’t officially visited Florida yet, but I have been to Gainesville before. I may take an official to Florida in the future.”

When asked about Florida’s game yesterday against LSU, the four star Nwankwo spoke highly of what he saw. “I was very impressed at how they played. It was a fun game to watch.”

Both Notre Dame and Florida are recruiting Nwankwo as an offensive lineman; however Nwankwo says there is a possibility he plays on both sides of the line. “I will definitely play offensive line, but I’ve talked to Coach Meyer and Coach Weis and they say they will give me a shot to play defensive line too. I just want to play wherever I can get on the field first.”

Nwankwo has already decided when he will announce publicly. “I’m actually going to announce next week, and I will be doing it on ESPN.”

With a team first attitude, willing to play whatever position necessary, Nwankwo will make a great addition to any recruiting class this year. The school that gets him next week will be getting an excellent lineman, but also a high character individual.
