RECRUITING: Nwankwo impressed w/return visit

 |  August 7, 2006

All that is left for Emeka Nwankwo are his official visits and then the four-star offensive lineman from Chaminade Madonna Prep in Hollywood, Fla. will make a commitment. However, the biggest question is how many trips will the 6-foot-5, 270-pounder make?

“I just have to take a few official visits when that time comes, and then I will make my decision after a few of my visits,” Nwankwo said. “I’ll probably take a visit to Florida STate and Notre Dame. With my other choice Florida, those are my top three. I have already visited Florida, I just gotta see what is at Florida State and Notre Dame before I make my decision. If I have time, I will visit Florida, but if I don’t have time, it won’t be necessary.”

Nwankwo was not blown away by the Gators his first time visiting the Swamp, but things really changed on a return visit.

“The second time I went to Florida, I was really impressed with their coaching staff and recruiting class. With Notre Dame, their recruiting class is one of the best and I like their coaching staff. I like the coaching staff at Florida State, they are open and honest. They won’t lie to you and say you’ll start, but they say you have a good chance if you come in and work hard.”

Quick to point out that immediate playing time will not play a large factor in the decision, Nwankwo has a pretty good grasp on how he needs to improve at the next level.

“It is not really that big for me. I wouldn’t mind coming in and redshirting for a year; that would probably help me out the most, too. If it happens, it happens. I am not in any rush to start playing, but if my name is called to play early I will do it.”

The only immediate start on Nwankwo’s mind is the start of fall practice for Chaminade Madonna, and the big man is happy to start pushing around the defensive linemen once again.

“We started last week and started hitting Friday, and it was nice to get in the pads and start hitting again.”
