RECRUITING: Major Wright Impressed w/Swamp
Hard hitting Major Wright of Ft. Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas was in Gainesville Saturday taking in the game between Florida and LSU. The four-star safety saw excellent play from Florida’s secondary and especially the safety position enroute to a huge 23-10 victory. Wright was very impressed with the whole venue.
At 6-1 and 204, some call him the hardest hitter in the country. Major Wright saw Reggie Nelson knock some hapless receivers to the ground in the Swamp on Saturday. He liked what he saw of the Swamp and the Gators’ defense.
“It was a great game and Florida is a great team,” Meyer said. “I liked it and it was very nice. The crowd was awesome, really amazing. It was so loud with all those fans out there rooting for the Gators. I saw that college is a whole other level and you have to be really ready to hit someone.”
Right after the big win the recruits were whisked into the locker room to join in the celebration after the game. Wright said the Gator coaches and players made him feel like he was already wearing a uniform.
“The locker room was like being on the team,” he said. “They make you feel like part of the team.”
Our conversation with Wright happened Saturday night and he was just about to hit the town with one of his former teammates at St. Thomas Aquinas.
“Right now I am with my old teammate Marcus Gilbert,” he said. “I am staying in Gainesville tonight.”
Gator fans looking to have a landslide of commitments following the big win will have to wait on this big fish. He isn’t quite ready to pull the trigger for anyone.
“I am open right now, I am going to ride it out to the end,” he said. I have my top five of Florida, Ohio State, Georgia, USC, and Miami.”
