RECRUITING: Henry Sets The Record Straight

 |  September 25, 2006

Scout.com's number one rated punter in the nation has decided he has had enough with the recruiting process. Only a week ago a report surfaced that Chas Henry of Dallas (GA) Paulding County was contemplating a visit to check out the University of Georgia. Henry wants to set the record straight: he didn't make a trip to Athens and there are no plans to visit any time in the future.

“I stayed home,” Henry said Monday night. “I informed Georgia last week that I am no longer looking at any schools and I am very firm with my commitment to Florida. I am staying a Gator.”

Henry’s leg could be described as a rocket launcher the way he booms his punts but he’s not just the guy that comes in on fourth down to alter field position for his team. He’s an excellent athlete that plays quarterback for a 3-0 East Paulding team that has its sights set on the state playoffs.

“Right now we are third in the state in scoring at 41 points a game,” Henry said. “We are 3-0 and have about 500 yards passing. I have thrown for three touchdowns and run for one. We are right outside the rankings and my school has never made the playoffs before.”

Henry plans to take at least a couple of visits to Gainesville before he signs on the dotted line in February. The first one will come this weekend.

“I will probably take my official to Florida for the South Carolina game,” he said. “I will be making it down to the Alabama game for an unofficial visit this weekend with my parents. I think we have informed the coaches there, but we are going to try and make it down.”

He is looking forward to seeing, hearing, and experiencing The Swamp at its rocking best this weekend.

“It will be the first game that I will see in the stadium with all the fans, so I am really looking forward to it,” he said.

The Gators will be losing punter Eric Wilbur who is off to a great year and has been excellent in his four year career as a Gator. Henry is supposed to have the tools to take the Florida punting game to an even higher level. It looks like Gator fans can rest easy that the home state Georgia Bulldogs won’t be getting in the way of his future in Gainesville.
