RECRUITING: Deonte focuses on US Army Bowl
Belle Glades Central (FL) wide receiver Deonte Thompson continues to walk through the recruiting process. While weighing over his options, his focus now turns to the U.S. Army All American Game, and the visits that will come soon after his return.
WR Deonte Thompson ended his senior season by scoring two touchdowns in a 39-27 defeat of Pensacola Pine Forest. Now that his attention turns to where he will play college football, he continues to claim the same top five he has been looking at for most of his senior year.
“My top five are still Florida, Miami, USC, LSU, and Ohio State,” Thompson said.
The 5-11.5, 186 pound wide receiver shared what he likes specifically about each school.
Florida: “Everything about them. I mean I grew up a Florida fan and they’re playing really well now. I talk to Coach Doc Holliday about once a week.”
Miami: “It’s a great university, just top not with everything. They’ve got a great history too.
USC: “It’s a great school, too. I got to meet a lot of great people on my visit there. I liked the city too.”
LSU: “My visit there was great. There were a lot of great people there too.”
Ohio State: “They’ve been recruiting me hard, and they’re playing really well right now too.”
The five star wide receiver has visited three of his five schools he listed. He talked about setting up his official visit with the Gators.
“I’ll most likely visit Florida sometime in January,” Thompson said. “It just depends on what weekend I can make it there. Coach Holliday really wants me to visit.”
One of the many accolades Thompson has received this year is his invitation to San Antonio to play in the U.S. Army All American Game on January 6th.
“I’m really excited about the game. I can’t wait to play with guys that are that talented. I’m looking forward to going up against some great defensive players.”
While many players make their final decisions at the All American Game, the swift, five star wide receiver still has some work to do before his decision can be reached.
“It’s most likely going to come down to Signing Day for my decision,” Thompson said. “I still need to take two more visits, and then evaluate all the schools before I make my final decision.” When he begins to make the evaluations, Thompson knows what characteristics are important to him.
“I’ve got to feel comfortable with the school I choose,” Thompson said. “The school needs to feel a lot like home.”
