Ole Miss DT pledge to visit Florida

 |  November 12, 2012  |  0 Comments

Florida could possibly lose several defensive tackles this year to the NFL Draft, including two starters who could leave early in Sharrif Floyd and Dominique Easley.

There could be a serious need for defensive tackles in the Class of 2013, and the Gators are now looking in the junior college ranks.

Scooba East Mississippi defensive tackle Darious Cummings is one of those prospects, even though he is committed to Ole Miss.

“Florida has been talking to me a lot lately,” Cummings said. “Coach (Will) Muschamp called me last week and offered me a scholarship to attend Florida. Coach (Bryant) Young had come by and seen me earlier this year and told me an offer could be coming.”

The 6-foot-3, 305-pound Cummings is honored to have the offer but is still committed to Ole Miss.

“I mean, it’s a tremendous honor to be offered,” Cummings said. “But I’m still solid to Ole Miss, but I’m going to take a visit to see what it’s like just to make sure it’s the right decision. “

A visit to Florida will happen this coming weekend for Cummings when the No. 6 Gators take on Jacksonville State in The Swamp.

Even though this is Cummings first visit to Florida, he has made sure to watch them play on TV several times this season.

“I have watched them play a few times,” Cummings said. “I like the consistency and how they fight all game long. They never stop playing hard and their defense is good.”

Cummings’ trip to Florida will be his final visit before he makes his final decision on where he will attend college.

The JUCO prospect will enroll at his chosen school in January.
