Tampa (Fla.) Hillsborough defensive end Jordan Sherit has seen his recruitment heat up over the spring as a number of teams have offered scholarships and more are expected.

The tricky part for the 6-foot-3, 245-pound Sherit is schools are now offering him at two different positions.

“North Carolina State, Stanford and Miami have all offered me as a tight end,” Sherit said. “Miami has basically offered me twice, once as a defensive end and now as a tight end. The rest of the schools are offering me as a defensive end.

“I really like both positions.”

Florida is one of the schools to have offered the Hillsborough prospect as a defensive end.

“Coach (Will) Muschamp told me that he wants me to come in as a defensive end,” Sherit said. “But he said that I could move to the buck position, depending on how my body responds to a college work out.”

Over the next several weeks, Sherit plans to announce his top 10.

“Florida, Vanderbilt and Stanford will be in my top 10 when I announce it,” Sherit said. “South Carolina, Stanford, Oklahoma, Clemson and Georgia Tech are all recruiting me hard too, so they could be in my top 10.”

One of the main reasons Florida will be in his top 10 is his relationship with the coaches.

At the beginning of Sherit’s recruitment, UF tight ends coach Derek Lewis was his main recruiter, but that has changed.

“Coach Lewis was the coach I was talking to at first. we had a great relationship and would talk about everything from the NBA playoffs to just life in general,” Sherit said. “Now, coach Muschamp and coach (Dan) Quinn have started to handle my recruitment.

“It shows me how much they want me as no other school has the head coach talking to me.”

This summer, Sherit plans to visit Florida, Florida State, Georgia and South Florida before taking official visits in the fall.

A decision from Sherit is expected this fall after he takes a few official visits.
