Muschamp calls DT Greg Gilmore
Hope Mills (N.C) South View defensive tackle Greg Gilmore has been one of the Florida football team’s top targets for the Class of 2013 since the beginning of his junior season.
“Coach (Will) Muschamp was the first coach to call me on Saturday,” Gilmore said. “Coach (Ed) Oregon and Tee Martin called me from USC and coach (John) Chavis from LSU called me. Having coach Muschamp call me was special and showed how big of priority I am to him that he called me being the head coach of Florida.”
While his recruitment has been quiet to the media the 6-foot-4, 275-pound Gilmore said he talks to a lot of coaches, including Gators linebackers coach D.J. Durkin.
“I talk to coach Durkin a lot, he does a great job recruiting my area,” Gilmore said. “I love talking to him as a person. We talk about everything from football to life to school. He is just a real cool guy.”
When Muschamp called him on Saturday he talked about a lot of things, but Gilmore said a few things stuck out to him.
“He told me he needs me and needs me now,” Gilmore said. “He said he could have used me in the game on Saturday if I was down there because he needs defensive tackles that bad. That has kind of always been the message from him is that I’m needed at Florida.”
For quite some time LSU has been the leader for Gilmore but he says that’s not really the case anymore.
“Now that I’m taking my officials I’m going in with an open mind,” Gilmore said. “These officials are really important. I plan to be at Florida for the Kentucky game and I will take officials to USC and LSU. I may visit Virginia Tech before Florida but I’m not sure yet.”
The one factor working in Florida’s favor is Gilmore’s mother love for Florida.
“My mom really likes Florida a lot,” Gilmore said. “She likes the direct flight into Gainesville but she also likes all of the mom stuff that Florida has to offer me and my family. Her and my dad will be on my official to Florida.”
A decision for Gilmore will come shortly after his official visits are over.
