Max Garcia to transfer to Florida

Max Garcia has been one of the most heavily recruited transfers in recent years after he granted permission to leave Maryland to be closer to home this past spring.

A source close to the situation has confirmed that the 6-foot-4, 310-pounder from Norcross, Ga., has put an end to the race for his services by informing the Gators coaching staff on Saturday of his intentions to transfer to Florida. His other finalists were Clemson, Georgia, Ole Miss and Southern California. He also visited Wisconsin.

Unlike some transfers who want to leave a school because of a lack of playing time, Garcia became such a hot commodity because of his experience. He started all 12 games at left tackle for the Terrapins last season and can play two years at Florida after sitting out this fall due to transfer eligibility rules.

Garcia, a three-star prospect when he was at Norcross High, visited Florida in March for a spring practice and came away impressed with offensive line coach Tim Davis.
