Jacksonville linebacker Daniel McMillian committed to Florida on Thursday afternoon, giving the Gators their third commitment for the 2013 class just one day after National Signing Day 2012 netted 23 new signees for Will Muschamp’s squad.

“I committed to Florida today,” McMillian said in a text message. “If you ain’t a Gator then you Gator bait lol.”

The 6-foot-3, 220-pound linebacker from First Coast High School choose Florida over Alabama, Clemson, Florida State and many others. McMillian had 20 Division I offers to date.

As a junior at First Coast, McMillian racked up 12 sacks and nine forced fumbles while leading his team to the Class 7A state championship game. First Coast fell to Manatee in the championship game 40-0.

McMillian joins Winter Haven running back Adam Lane and Crescent City defensive tackle Caleb Brantley in the 2013 class.

If Muschamp’s 2012 signing class is any indication, the Gators should add a few more commitments to the ranks in the coming weeks. The Gators filled the majority of their 2012 recruiting class early in the cycle.

The First Coast prospect gives Florida its first linebacker for 2013. After missing out on Josh Harvey-Clemons, an elite prospect out of Valdosta, Ga., on signing day, Florida has signed just three players recruited as linebackers in the past two years.

Will Muschamp will look to add depth to the linebacker position in the 2013 recruiting class, and McMillian’s addition is a good start.

Gator Country will update this story with more information and quotes as it becomes available.
