Gators legacy likes new UF staffers

St. Louis, Miss., offensive lineman Jack Kurzu has been to Florida many times, but Saturday was a little different.

“The visit was a great visit for me,” said, Kurzu, who’s father suited up for the Gators. “I finally got the opportunity to meet coach (Tim) Davis, the new offensive line coach at Florida.”

The 6-foot-4, 295-pound Kurzu was impressed with Davis, and for a lot of reasons.

“He is the exact kind of coach I want for an offensive line coach,” Kurzu said. “He has a lot of passion and energy as a coach, and he expects a lot out of his lineman. He seems very excited about the game of football and he motivated me a lot by just talking to him. He is a crafty offensive line coach.”

While the Mary Inst Country Day prospect did not get to speak with former offensive line coach Frank Verducci, he believes Florida made a solid hire in bringing in Davis.

“Coach Davis puts a lot of focus into technique and fundamentals,” Kurzu said. “When we broke down into positional groups, he showed us film from Utah and how his offensive line blocked and things. He said that his offensive line is going to win games with good technique and good fundamentals.”

While Kurzu doesn’t have a Florida scholarship offer at this point, he understands why thanks to the coaching staff’s openness about the process.

“Coach Davis and coach (Brent) Pease are both new to the staff and they need evaluate my film,” Kurzu said. “Coach Davis is basically living out of a box, so I need to give him time. They both told me they want to watch my tape and see me at a camp this summer.”

Kurzu’s father, Bob Kurzu, is a former Florida Gators player but that will not weight into the younger Kurzu’s decision.

“My parent have told me this is my dream and to do what is best for me,” Kurzu said. “So, I’m going to keep everything open to all schools. I’m going to visit Illinois and Louisville next weekend. I hope to make it Oklahoma for their junior day as well as Notre Dame.”

Kurzu currently holds a scholarship offer from Troy University.
