Gators go after 2014 FSU pledge

 |  May 23, 2012  |  2 Comments

The state of Florida will once again be loaded with top 2014 prospects next and the receiver position may be the deepest in that loaded class

One of those prospects is Immokalee, Fla., receiver J.C. Jackson, who is currently committed to Florida State.

Even though the 5-foot-10, 175-pound Jackson is committed to FSU, he recently picked up an offer from an in-state rival of the Seminoles.

“(Florida) coach (Travaris) Robinson was by my school last week,” Jackson said. “When he was there he told my coach, he was offering me a scholarship. He told me he really likes me and what he was telling me was great.”

The prospect plays both receiver and defensive back at Immokalee, but Florida sees him focusing on one side of the ball.

“They want me at defensive back,” Jackson said. “He told me I’m a raw cornerback, but I could be one of the best defensive backs in the country if I continued to improve my game.”

Jackson pledged to Florida State in March over offers from Clemson, Miami and other top schools.

Despite the non-binding, verbal commitment Jackson said he remains open to other schools and will take visits this summer.

“I’m interested in Florida,” Jackson said. “My options are still open and I plan to take a few visits this summer. I will visit Florida and Florida State for sure.”

As a sophomore, Jackson caught 18 passes for 554 yards and six touchdowns. He added another touchdown on special teams.

“one of the defensive backs in the country” . . . ?

Word missing. One of the best, perhaps? One of the smartest? Most handsome? Angriest, indelible, macabre, irksome, fastest?
