At Will Muschamp’s introductory press conference to announce his hiring as head coach at Florida, he said the Southeastern Conference is “a line-of-scrimmage league.” Looking at the SEC teams that battled for the BCS title, that point is spot on. National Champion Alabama and runner-up LSU were loaded with big, mobile bodies up front, and on both sides of the line.

Heading into his second season as the Gators’ headman, Muschamp has shored up the defensive side of the line. However, the offensive line lacks depth. Muschamp only signed two offensive linemen in the 2012 class. In the past three classes — two under Muschamp and one under Urban Meyer — Florida has signed a total of just six offensive linemen.

Looking ahead to spring practice, which begins March 14, Florida will field 14 offensive linemen who are on scholarship. It’s also important to note that two of those linemen are recovering from injuries sustained this past season.
