Florida hosts Brandon Kublanow

 |  March 18, 2012  |  1 Comment

Offensive lineman are something Florida is in need of and this weekend the Gators hosted Marietta, Ga., offensive lineman Brandon Kublanow.

“I actually arrived in town on Friday and stayed until Saturday night,” Kublanow said. “It was a lot fun as I got to meet all of the coaches and talk to them at length and tour the campus and facilities.”

The Florida coaching staff made sure to show the Walton prospect how much of a need he was in this 2013 class.

“I talked to Coach (Will) Muschamp, coach (Tim) Davis, and coach (DJ) Durkin for a while on Friday night,” Kublanow said. “They were all telling me that I’m a priority in this 2013 class as they only signed two offensive linemen in the 2012 class. Coach Muschamp said they want me at center but I could guard and that I would have a great chance to play early if I choose Florida.

On Saturday morning the 6-foot-2, 290-pound Kublanow had the chance to sit in on the offensive line meeting with assistant Tim Davis.

“The meetings were really good,” Kublanow said. “Coach Davis is a really good teacher and he teaches stuff quick as he expects you to do your homework before practice and study the playbook. He really focuses on
technique a lot as well. I really learned some things from him during the meeting.”

While Davis teaches technique in the meeting Kublanow said he could translate that on to the field.

“You could tell the guys took a lot from the meeting and made it happen on the field with technique,” Kublanow said. “The practice is fast pace and really intense so you have to learn quick out there.”

Heading into the Florida, visit Kublanow said he was wide open and is the still the case after the visit.

“I want to keep everything open right now and weigh my options,” Kublanow said. “I want to visit all of my schools first and then I will sit down with my parents and make a decision sometime this summer. I know I’m going to visit Georgia and North Carolina the next few weeks and I will try to get back down to Florida as well but Florida is definitely up there for me right now.”

That response sounds like a miss on this prospect :(

Still, I loved that these practices were open to the public. I went to both and feel that no one could steal valuable strategy secrets from watching our drills. But fans like myself can become more familiar with our team and see how things are generally going behind the scenes. Thanks Muschamp!
