Before taking over at Florida, Will Muschamp was the defensive coordinator at Texas.

So it’s obvious that Muschamp is a defensive-mined coach. More importantly, he focuses on the defensive secondary. During the two practices that were opened to the public on Friday and Saturday, Muschamp spent most of his time working with safeties during individual position drills.

One of the keys for a Muschamp team is turnovers, something that was missing from Florida’s defense last season. The Gators were 115th out of 120 team in takeaways per game and ranked last in the nation with a -1.2 turnover margin per game. For the season, the Gators picked off a total of eight passes, but likely dropped that many or more potential interceptions.
