DT Moten picks up Florida offer

 |  February 14, 2013  |  4 Comments

Defensive tackles are always a top priority for Will Muschamp and his coaching staff at Florida.

On Tuesday, the Gators offered 2014 Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas defensive tackle Anthony Moten.

“It’s good to get an offer from Florida,” Moten said. “It’s really special, because I have been working hard since my freshman year for this offer and I have just been waiting for it to happen. It really shows that hard work pays off, and I’m excited for myself that I got the offer.”

The 6-foot-4, 265-pound Moten received the word that Will Muschamp wanted to talk to him, and that’s when he was offered.

“I talked to coach Muschamp on the phone,” Moten said. “He said he and coach (Brad) Lawing watched my film and they were impressed by it and they liked me a lot and liked my style of play and athletic ability.”

Moten is a defensive tackle, and that’s one thing that stands out when he thinks about Florida and its defense.

“Their defensive line is full of swag,” Moten said. “(Dominique) Easley and the rest of the defensive line has a lot of swag and they were the single digits numbers I like that. They are also all big and physical lineman like myself. I feel like I could fit in well, but I play with a lot of swag myself.”

The junior defensive lineman plans to visit Florida this summer after school lets out, and he also plans to narrow things down then as well.

“I want to get to Florida this summer with my friends,” Moten said. “After I visit some schools, I want to narrow things down. Florida is high on my list right now though.”

Moten admits to growing up watching Florida play on TV a lot when he was younger.

Sounds good. Is Anthony Moten related to Andrew Moten, the former UF basketball player in the 80s? Lol!

Now we just need to offer Vernon Maxwell Jr to complete the ‘80s refit!  That was a hell of a backcourt.

I was wondering if he was related to Mike Moten, a DE/DT who played under Spurrier.
