Dante Fowler Jr. committed, looking
St. Petersburg defensive end Dante Fowler Jr. was one of the top prospects on Florida’s campus last weekend for the Florida vs. Alabama game, and he left impressed.
“The visit was a very good visit,” Fowler said. “The game was a good game, as Florida and Alabama are both great teams, but Florida is just a lot younger.”
The Florida State commit was paying very close to attention to the defense while at the game.
“I watched Ronald Powell a lot… I think he needs to get in the backfield more, but overall he is a good player and someone that I’m similar to,” Fowler explained. “I really like the way Florida plays defense, as they play fast and with a ton of speed while still being aggressive. I consider myself a fast player who is aggressive.”
The 6-foot-3, 232-pound Fowler has been committed to Florida State since last year, but he says he is weighing his options.
“I’m still committed to Florida State but I’m looking at all of my options at this time to make sure I make the right decision for me. Florida State has been struggling lately, and I’m not sure why, and Florida has played two of the best teams in the country, so that’s why they have been struggling.”
Florida is one of the teams still actively pursuing the Lakewood prospect, and Florida’s coaches have made sure to let Fowler know that he is wanted.
“Coach (Dan) Quinn and coach (Will) Muschamp both keep telling me how bad they want me and how they can use me in a lot of ways. I really like coach Muschamp because he is a defensive coach himself. I have actually liked him for a while, as when he was at Texas, he coached Sergio Kindle and made him good.”
Fowler said if he were to choose Florida, he would feel comfortable for a multiple reasons.
“I feel very comfortable at Florida, as my god brother goes there, and also I played my freshman year with Jon Halapio, and Matt Jones is committed there, and me and him are like brothers. But at this time, I’m still committed to Florida State.”
The Lakewood star has plans to make three more visits to Florida before National Signing Day in February.
“I will be at the Vanderbilt game with Matt Jones,” he said. “I will be at the Florida State game and then I will take an official visit to Florida in January.”
