CB Bessent offered by UF before visit

 |  February 15, 2013  |  0 Comments

The Gators coaching staff has been handing out offers this week, especially at the cornerback position, and on Wednesday it offered two defensive backs.

One of those was 2014 Kingsland (Ga.) Camden County cornerback Kalvaraz Bessent, who was excited to receive the offer.

“I’m excited to be offered by Florida,” Bessent said. “Coach (Will) Muschamp said he watched film and like it a lot and that’s why he was offering me. He said come to Florida and play cornerback for us. He also said for me to visit as soon as I could to get to know the coaches more.”

Bessent’s Camden County teammate Jarrad Davis signed with Florida just last week, and the two are good friends on and off the field.

“Me and Jarrad are real good friends,” Bessent said. “We both start on defense so we have become close because of that, but off the field we are friends, too. Jarrad has already been in my ear about how good Florida is and stuff.”

The 6-foot-1, 188-pound Bessent is no strange to Gainesville as he visited Florida last season for its upset win over LSU.

“Yeah, I was the LSU game last year,” Bessent said. “The atmosphere was great, and the Gator fans were wild and screaming the whole game. It was fun, and I enjoyed myself.

Besides the atmosphere, Bessent is also impressed with the way Florida plays defense and the style of play it puts on the field.

“The Florida defense is good and alive,” Bessent said. “They have a physical defense, and they always have good corners. I know they like to blitz a lot and play fast.

Bessent plays ball now in Georgia, but he is originally from Jacksonville where he grew up a Florida fan during his childhood.

The junior cornerback plans to visit Florida on Saturday where he wants to get to know everyone better and build on his relationship with Will Muschamp.

“I’m excited for the visit,” Bessent said. “I want to meet all of the coaches and talk to coach Muschamp more. I really like coach Muschamp so far. He seems like an all-around coach not just a head coach. I know he coaches defensive backs and is also always out recruiting.
