Around the SEC recruiting 10/10/12

 |  October 10, 2012  |  0 Comments

Every Wednesday, GatorCountry.com will break down recruiting updates from around the Southeastern Conference this week.

Not only will this focus on football, but we will also sprinkle in basketball news.

Alabama —The Crimson Tide had a slow week on the recruiting circuit, but their coaching staff had several visitors during the bye week, including top receiver target Robert Foster.

Arkansas — The Razorbacks have 16 commitments for the Class of 2013, and with a coaching search most likely to happen after the season, Arkansas has been trying to reaffirm all of its commitments.

Auburn — The Tigers hosted several visitors last week, including defensive end commitment Tashawn Bower, who reaffirmed his commitment to Auburn after the visit. Several of the Tigers’ other commitments have recently talked about taking visits to other schools. That will be something to watch going forward.

Georgia — The Bulldogs have 27 commitments but have recently turned up the heat on some other prospects, including former Florida State commitment Tony Stevens, who put Georgia in his top 5 recently.

Kentucky — The big news for the Wildcats this week was that Tampa Bay Tech offensive lineman Antonio Guerad named Kentucky his favorite along with UCF.

LSU — The Tigers are prepping for a huge recruiting weekend with LSU hosting a top-25 matchup against South Carolina. Most of the Tigers’ commitments are scheduled to be on campus including top target Tim Williams.

Ole Miss — The Rebels picked up their 19th commitment this week when former Florida State tight end commitment Christian Morgan committed to Ole Miss.

Mississippi State — Bossier (La.) defensive tackle Antonio McGhee de-committed from Tulane and now is going to take an official visit to Mississippi State soon.

Missouri — The Tigers host the Crimson Tide this weekend and will have a number of prospects on campus. But right now Missouri’s attention is keeping offensive lineman Clay Rhodes committed instead of switching to Oklahoma.

South Carolina — The Gamecocks hosted a number of top prospects last week, most of which were 2014 prospects. They also hosted Georgia commitment Shaq Wiggins for an official visit.

Tennessee — The Volunteers are trying to sway current Auburn commitment Carl Lawson, who said Tennessee calls once a week. Lawson said he will visit the Volunteers soon.

Texas A&M — The Aggies will host a big recruiting weekend highlighted by visits from receivers K.D. Cannon and Ricky Seals-Jones.

Vanderbilt — Vanderbilt had four commitments in August but hasn’t had any since. The Commodores have 20 commitments for the Class of 2013.
