Upon further film review: Defense
Upon further film review of Florida’s 20-17 win against Texas A&M, the Gators’ defense did a remarkable job. Of course, all of the half-time “adjustments” earned the most post-game chatter, but they weren’t too terribly bad in the first half, either. From a scheme standpoint, there wasn't much of an adjustment even made, which I'll explain in a few.
Now, as I had admitted in the first take featuring offensive observations, I’m no expert. I don’t pretend to know anything and everything about the game of football, although I’ve spent considerable time with a lot of amazing coaches. I played football growing up as well, but was a tight end in a wishbone offense in high school, so not much I had learned back then is executed these days outside of the basic fundamentals.
One thing I pride myself on is trying to learn more about the game as often as possible, whether that means watching my favorite channel, The NFL Network, anytime ESPN isn’t airing college or pro football. I’m even such a geek about this stuff that I frequent coaching websites and Youtube clips that teach about various schemes and techniques.
If I had chosen a different field, it would have been coaching (or, storm chasing, but that’s a pipe dream.). In fact, I probably would have tried coaching, although I’m not sure I would enjoy dealing with every parent who believed little Johnny-trip-over his-own-shoelaces was the next Tim Tebow.
Anyway, the team Tebow used to lead has just as solid as a defense as it did when Timmy led them to the 2006 national title. That team, and this one, will win a lot of games with defense.
Now, on to the observations:
