ShareUF Senior Salute: Lerentee McCray
Like many high school All-Americans before him, for Florida linebacker Lerentee McCray, the path to becoming a true impact player turned out to be a little longer than expected coming out of the prep ranks.
However, as with any player who has spent years waiting to unleash his load of potential, once McCray was given a prime opportunity like he was this season, he seized it. Since his essential coming out party against Tennessee, McCray has been a reliable stalwart in a stellar Florida defense, coming up with big plays during key moments for the Gators.
McCray’s first few years at Florida were relatively low-key. The Ocala-native spent his first two seasons relegated to special teams as he sat behind a talented slew of veteran linebackers.
