UF Football Notes: Pease on Brissett
Heading into a 1 p.m. matchup Saturday with Jacksonville State, the big story surrounding the Gators is the health of starting quarterback Jeff Driskel, and the capability of backup Jacoby Brissett — whom Driskel beat out for the starting job at the beginning of the season — to lead the team.
Driskel has yet to be officially ruled out of this weekend’s matchup, but in the meantime, Brissett will prepare as the starter this week according to Florida offensive coordinator Brent Pease.
“Well, he’ll [Brissett] take the majority of the reps,” Pease said on Tuesday. “I mean, it’s going to be Jacoby in there and everything’s going to be centered around him. How we base reps during the season, you know, it’s not like he doesn’t get some. He doesn’t get the number that Jeff has had, but he’s taken good quality reps and even through fall camp the number he can build on. Now it’s just kind of getting him settled in of what we’re going to do with the game plan.”
