UF Football Notes: Getting healthy

While No. 4 LSU’s stifling defense has been grabbing the majority of the headlines leading up to Saturday’s showdown with No. 10 Florida, the Gators’ group of defenders has been flying under the radar in terms of their impact on this weekend’s contest.

The Gators surrendered 41 points to the Tigers last season (a 41-11 loss for those trying not to remember), but this year, the Florida “D” will have a number of factors working in its favor. Aside from the home field advantage the Gators will enjoy this weekend, Florida will be as close to full strength as it has been all season with the announcement of linebacker Jelani Jenkins’ return on Wednesday.

In the year since Florida’s shellacking at the hands of the Tigers, defensive coordinator Dan Quinn’s group has become a stingy outfit, having yet to surrender a single point in the fourth quarter this season.

With the Gators’ biggest game of the season looming, Quinn spoke to reporters on Wednesday about what the Gators learned from last year’s game, and what they’ll do to prepare for the challenge that awaits them on Saturday.
