One of Gator Country's all-time favorite Florida Gators football players will be featured on the Football Saturdays in the South show on Sunday.

Chris Doering, the former Gators' receiver, will be part of the broadcast that airs at 3 p.m. ET on ABC. The show is hosted by Tim Brando and "continues to bring viewers around the country an insider's look at the names, traditions, and stories that make college football so special," according to its website.

Doering owns and operates Chris Doering Mortgage in Gainesville and was recently highlighted in a “Where are the now?” feature in Gator Country magazine.

“Doering’s Got A Touchdown!” is one of UF play-by-play analyst Mick Hubert’s most famous radio call from when Doering caught the game-winning touchdown pass from Danny Wuerffel to beat Kentucky 24-20 in 1993.

“It was great to have the opportunity to play for Florida,” Doering said in the article by GC’s Andrew Spivey. “But to play during the era of turning the program from a ‘wait-until-next-year program’ into a team that was the overall favorite in the SEC and one of the natural powerhouses was great.”

After arriving on campus as a walk-on, Doering quickly earned a scholarship by his sophomore season. He set several school receiving records in coach Steve Spurrier’s “fun-n-gun” offense. He’s still owns the Southeastern Conference record for most career touchdown receptions with 31. After seven years in the NFL, Doering retired in 2006 and eventually began his mortgage company, which celebrated its fifth anniversary earlier this year.

“It’s simple: Gators folks love to do business with other Gators,” Doering said in the article. “The Gator family has a bond — not only with the players, but with the fans that is an unspoken bond and it’s something that is unique.”

Sunday’s show is one of six, one-hour broadcasts of Football Saturdays in the South. The show is in its ninth season and many of the shows highlight ACC and SEC football.
