With the 2012 season concluded, Gator Country takes a look at the 10 best players for the Florida Gators football team in 2012 in a new series called “Tremendous 10.” Over the next 10 days, GC will be profiling the accomplishments of these Gators from the 2012 season.

Hunter Joyer isn’t the flashiest player for the Florida Gators, but he simply got the job done in 2012.

At 5-foot-10, 249-pounds, Joyer came into the Florida program as the team’s primary fullback. And so far, the Wesley Chapel, Fla., native has been a perfect fit for the pro-style offense Will Muschamp installed upon arriving in Gainesville.

Joyer provided key blocks all season en route to playing a significant role in running back Mike Gillislee’s 1,000-yard season. It seems as if when the team needs a big block with blitz protection or on a sweep to the outside, Joyer was there to follow through.

He only carried the football 13 times, but Joyer’s impact on the offense should never be underestimated. His unselfishness when it comes blocking rather than carrying the football has been a big reason why the power running game had much of its success for the Gators in 2012.

Joyer will be a key part moving forward as the Gators continue to establish their power run game behind running back Matt Jones and incoming freshmen Kelvin Taylor and Adam Lane.
