Eight years ago when Urban Meyer was first starting out as a head coach and introducing the Mid-America Conference to his version of the spread offense, there were critics who called it basketball on grass. Four years ago, when he was introduced as the head coach at the University of Florida, the critics in the Southeastern Conference said the spread option would never work in this league because it was too much of a finesse offense and the defenses were way too fast.
