In both the 2006 and 2008 national championship seasons, the Gators suffered an unexpected loss to an unranked team from the SEC West just one week after pulling off a hard fought, emotional victory. In 2006, the Gators lost at Auburn the week after they knocked off ninth-ranked LSU in Gainesville. Last season, Ole Miss scored a 31-30 upset the week after the Gators ground out an impressive win over Tennessee in Knoxville.
