RECRUITING: Gators in top five for Buchanan

 |  March 27, 2007

Ramon Buchanan continues to be one of the more highly recruited linebackers in the state, even this early in the recruiting process. Buchanan updates us on an unofficial visit this weekend, as well as an update on his recruitment.

Palm Bay High School prospect Ramon Buchanan is continuing to take some of his visits this spring, trying to get a better feel for the schools he is considering. When we talked with him today, he was at home after a Saturday visit to an instate football program in which he had been interested in gaining more information.

“I just got back from Tallahassee,” Buchanan said. “The visit was decent. We got to watch them practice and listen to them talk about their academics. Then we got to tour all of their football facilities.”

Though he said he had fun on his visit, it still has not changed much of the way he is looking at all of his current schools of interest.

“The visit hasn’t changed anything as far as recruiting,” Buchanan said. “They didn’t move up or down.”

As far as the schools of interest for the standout linebacker, he continues to claim a top five consisting of three instate schools.

“I’d say that my current top five is Florida, Florida State, LSU, Miami, and Wake Forest,” Buchanan said.

One of the schools the 6-1, 190 pound linebacker claims is recruiting him the hardest is Florida. Though he has been in Gainesville in the past, he claims that he wants to return and see more of the campus.

“I’ve been to Gainesville once before but I plan on coming again for the next event that they have up there,” Buchanan said. “It should be during spring practice at some point, but I’m not sure. I’ve been before and only got to see a little bit.”

Buchanan also claims that he has a great relationship with the Florida coach that is recruiting him, wide receivers coach Billy Gonzales.

“I talk to Coach Gonzalez a lot,” Buchanan said. “He’s real cool. He’s telling me that I am a great player and very athletic. He said right now I have the ability to come in and play any linebacker position at Florida.”

The Palm Bay prospect’s 6-1, 190 pound frame makes him an extremely capable prospect to make plays at his position. With linebacker such a position of need for the Gators’ recruiting class this year, Ramon Buchanan will likely hear from the Florida coaching staff all year long.
