The graduation of Tony Joiner has left a safety position wide open for Dorian Munroe. His experience in the SEC Championship game his redshirt freshman season showed he could play, but now he has the position all to himself.

Q: “What have you seen from the defense so far?”

A: “This defense is becoming more of a team. We’re trying to make that next step. We were sort of on the right track next year, but we know we need to take that next step.”

Q: “What has the defense been working on so far?”

A: “We’ve been trying to build chemistry. We’ve had a lot of team building events so far. We’ve been taking all the new coaching with open arms.”

Q: “Is it difficult for you to get excited out here during the spring?”

A: “It’s easy for me to get excited out here. I take every practice like it’s my chance to show what I can do. I really want to be a part of the team this year and have a major role. Every practice counts for a guy like me.”

Q: “Do you feel like you’ve locked up a starting position?”

A: “Coach Heater says out there every day that there is no job promised right now. Everybody’s out there fighting for a job, and they’re rotating in a lot of guys.”

Q: “How is Coach Heater different from Coach Holliday?”

A: “Coach Heater is really hands on. He’s teaching us new fundamentals and new reads. I feel like it’s helped us.”

Q: “How are things between you and Major (Wright) in the defensive backfield?”

A: “They’ve kind of changed the position of the safeties. We’re interchangeable, and it’s all new for Major. I’ve really been there for him every step of the way letting him know the reads and letting him know what to do. He’s been doing a good job, and he’s also been helping me out at free safety.”
