Pistol formation helps Gators get ground game going
When Florida quarterback John Brantley trotted out onto the field Saturday against Vanderbilt, things were almost certain to look different than they did the week prior against Georgia.
Brantley was supposed to run the offense from under center, as opposed to the shotgun-only offense the Gators ran against the Bulldogs.
But despite running into the huddle without any noticeable limp, Brantley surprised both Florida fans and the Vanderbilt defense when he lined Florida up in the pistol formation.
“We’re a different offense when we’re able to run the play-actions off of that,” head coach Will Muschamp said. “When you’re able to do those things, it makes those things against the defense off-kilter a little bit and that’s what’s been good for us.”
