As the SEC rolls on to most likely its seventh-straight national title in a few weeks, with at least three teams among the heavy favorites to make it eight-straight next year, it looks to be a good time to examine just how this unprecedented level of dominance by one conference came to pass. Because it is not a small thing to double the previous record number of consecutive national championships won by a single conference since the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision Records began recognizing titles in 1950. What exactly happened to trigger this domination that includes to date six-straight titles among four different schools and seven in the last nine years that included an eighth would-be title had the team that won it been banned at the time from the BCS title game for massive cheating instead of retroactively stripped of the title a few years later.
