One Official; Juniors Galore Visiting For LSU

 |  October 6, 2006

The lone official visitor for the LSU game this weekend is Gator commitment and Glendora (CA) Citrus College quarterback Bryan Waggener. There are a number of big time players from the class of ’07 expected in attendance, but you could probably say the emphasis on this game is with the junior class of ‘08.

Bryan Waggener is making only his second trip to Gainesville and should receive the royal treatment on the visit. The strong armed junior quarterback will be enrolling at UF in January and competing right away for playing time next year.

Joining Waggener are several Gator commitments that will be making the trip unofficially. The Lakeland six, Ahmad Black, Michael Pouncey, Maurkice Pouncey, Chris Rainey, Seven Wilks, and Paul Wilson are all committed to the Gators and will be bringing teammate and defensive tackle John Brown with them on the visit.

Mobile (AL) McGill-Toolen defensive end Sidell Corley is committed to the Gators and he has changed up his plans to make this an unofficial visit so he can come back in January for an official. He will be bringing his good friend, safety Michael McNeil of Mobile Davidson, with him on the trip.

Lineman Linval Joseph of Alachua Santa Fe, defensive end Jay Howard of Orlando Jones, linebacker John Jones of Sarasota Booker, and punter Chas Henry of Dallas (GA) East Paulding round out the rest of the committed Gators expected in attendance.

There are a good bunch of other seniors that are also expected to be in attendance on Saturday. Offensively the skill positions take over as super running backs Caleb King of Norcross (GA) Greater Atlanta Christian and Bo Williams of Oakland Park Northeast are expected to be in attendance.

South Florida standout wide receivers Kamar Aiken of Hollywood Chaminade Madonna and Leon Hankerson of Ft Lauderdale St Thomas Aquinas are expected in to watch the game. Tallahassee Lincoln wide receiver/ cornerback Brandon Paul is also expected in.

Last week the Gators had a hand full of big time offensive linemen come to Gainesville for the game against Alabama. This week it looks like Hollywood Chaminade offensive lineman Emeka Nwankwo may be the only big name senior in attendance that is not already committed to the Gators.

D’Angelo McCray of Jacksonville Jackson and John Brown are two huge defensive linemen expected for the game. The Gators are certainly hot and heavy after both of these two big time players.

Brandon Hicks is a big time linebacker from Jacksonville Forrest who the Gators are very high on. He along with South Sumter linebacker Kendall Smith (FSU commit) are the only two big names at the linebacker position expected in that are not already committed to the Gators.

The Gators will host four big time defensive backs from the senior class of ’07. St Thomas Aquinas safety Major Wright, Garner (NC) athlete Chris Culliver, Jacksonville First Coast cornerback Jamire Williams and the above mentioned Michael McNeil would make anyone a nice secondary.

With only ten spots remaining to fill in the class of 2007, the Gators are busy recruiting the junior class. The turnout for the junior class is expected to be big time for this game. Pahokee high school is loaded with a great junior class and several of their big time athletes are expected in the Swamp on Saturday. Like wise Folkston (GA) Charlton County has a group of juniors that will be making the trip.

Here are some highlighted players from each position in the class of 2008 expected at the game against LSU:

Quarterback D.C. Jefferson of Winter Haven was at Friday Night Lights in July and was impressive. He is built much like Cam Newton or Cornelius Ingram, a little raw, but a lot of tools to work with. Junior wide receiver Antonio Bell of Daytona Beach Mainland is definitely one to watch for next year.

Running backs Michael James of Ridge Community near Lakeland and Jeff Demps of South Lake are two ball carriers to watch next recruiting season. They have both given an indication that they will be present for the LSU game. Offensive lineman Matt Patchan of Tampa Freedom will make at least his second visit to the Swamp this year. He is a big timer for the next recruiting class.

Gator linebacker Earl Everett’s cousin Marty Everett will be a heavily recruited defensive tackle next year. Marty is expected to be at the game on Saturday. Also expected is hard hitting junior linebacker Raymone Buchanon of Melbourne Palm Bay. Safety T.J. Bryant of Tallahassee Lincoln rounds out our list of highly touted juniors that are expected for the game on Saturday.
